In rural regions, nearly 40 percent of children are showing signs of malnutrition, and school attendance has fallen sharply as families struggle to balance education with the need for income generation. Supply chain disruptions have further eroded food distribution systems, while once-reliable school meal programs have been scaled back or eliminated entirely in many districts.
The new initiative will apply Lotus Ministry Trust’s experience in Bangladesh, where it has supported over 100,000 people with food, education, and healthcare assistance since 2021. In Sri Lanka, the program will combine immediate interventions—such as food relief and educational support—with sustainable systems designed to strengthen local capacity.
Planned interventions include distribution of essential food packages to high-need communities, temporary learning spaces and teaching resources for children at risk of educational disruption, and partnerships with local organizations to ensure cultural and logistical relevance.
