Lotus Ministry Trust announces the expansion of its relief efforts into Sri Lanka; addressing food insecurity, education, and health care through a proven, community-focused humanitarian model previously applied in Bangladesh.

-- Lotus Ministry Trust has announced the expansion of its humanitarian relief program from Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, marking a significant step in addressing urgent needs across the island nation. The new initiative builds on the organization’s established model of direct community engagement and reflects its commitment to adapting proven approaches to new contexts.

Sri Lanka is experiencing one of its most severe economic and humanitarian crises in decades, as food inflation has surged beyond 50 percent for staple items, rendering nutritious meals unaffordable for millions. In rural regions, nearly 40 percent of children are showing signs of malnutrition, and school attendance has fallen sharply as families struggle to balance education with the need for income generation. Supply chain disruptions have further eroded food distribution systems, while once-reliable school meal programs have been scaled back or eliminated entirely in many districts.
The new initiative will apply Lotus Ministry Trust’s experience in Bangladesh, where it has supported over 100,000 people with food, education, and healthcare assistance since 2021. In Sri Lanka, the program will combine immediate interventions—such as food relief and educational support—with sustainable systems designed to strengthen local capacity.
Planned interventions include distribution of essential food packages to high-need communities, temporary learning spaces and teaching resources for children at risk of educational disruption, and partnerships with local organizations to ensure cultural and logistical relevance.
Jeff Dunan, Director of Lotus Ministry Trust, emphasized that the expansion is a response to urgent conditions and an investment in long-term stability. “Our model is designed to address immediate humanitarian needs while building the groundwork for resilient communities,” he said. “By working alongside local partners, we can ensure that assistance reaches those most in need and that programs are sustainable.”
Lotus Ministry Trust’s expansion into Sri Lanka demonstrates how targeted humanitarian initiatives can mitigate the effects of economic and social crises. By combining food relief with educational support and community partnerships, the organization aims to help families weather current hardships while laying the foundation for recovery.
