NFL M.O.M.S. Hosts “The Next Play Networking Mixer” to Show How Listening Can Save Lives On and Off the Field

NFL M.O.M.S. hosts The Next Play Networking Mixer Sept. 6 in Hampton, GA—bringing athletes, moms, and community leaders together around one core theme: the power of truly listening. The event, held during National Suicide Awareness Month, will explore how listening with empathy can break silence, prevent tragedy, and prepare families for life beyond sports.

Hampton, GA - The Mothers of Motivated Sons (NFL M.O.M.S.) will host The Next Play Networking Mixer, an evening designed to help athletes, parents, and families prepare for life after sports by focusing on one simple but powerful theme: listening with intent to understand.

Taking place during National Suicide Awareness Month, the event will highlight how listening — without rushing to respond or judge — is the foundation of mental wellness, legacy, and safe spaces for athletes and families.

For founder Dr. Erica Wilson, this mission is deeply personal. As a single mother, she raised her son, Allen Hurns, from youth football to the NFL. Together, they now work to ensure that athletes and their families are supported not only in the game but in life.

“This isn’t just about networking; it’s about teaching families and communities how to listen in a way that heals,” said Dr. Wilson. “When we listen to understand, we catch the unspoken cries for help, we break down silence around tough issues like depression, finances, or body image, and we create a culture where our sons and daughters know their voices matter. That’s the victory worth fighting for.”

The evening will feature a lineup of speakers addressing mental health, nutrition, coaching, finance, and wellness — all through the lens of listening as prevention and empowerment:

  • Ebony Sturrup, LMFT-QS, LMHC – Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Epiphany Counseling and Professional Services
  • Wendell Sturrup – Sports Director & Coach Champion
  • Ashley Cunningham – Financial Advisor
  • Naomi Adek, MAS, MA, RDN, LDN – Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist, Fay Nutrition
  • Lisa C. Williams – Founder of CAREGD™, Creator of Me 1st Then Sports™, Mental Wellness Architect
  • Allen Hurns – Former NFL Wide Receiver, Co-Founder of NFL M.O.M.S. Legacy Movement

The event will also honor:

  • Dazjanae Greene – Clayton State University Basketball Guard
  • Coach Neil Hawkins – Esteemed coach and community leader

Speakers will explore:

  • Breaking silence around depression, body image, and finances.
  • Building generational wealth and legacy through honest conversations.
  • Supporting mothers and sons through the athletic journey.
  • Preparing athletes and families for the next play in life.
  • How listening can protect mental health and prevent suicide among athletes.
