The launch of the OnMed CareStation in Bruni represents a transformative solution to this healthcare desert, offering residents immediate, private access to real-time video consultations with licensed clinicians. Equipped with advanced diagnostics—including thermal imaging, real-time scans, and remote vital signs monitoring, the CareStation delivers quality care without the need for in-person visits.
This is one of four CareStations opening in Texas this month, positioning the state to become OnMed’s largest hub in the country.
Access to healthcare in rural Texas is nearing a crisis point. In Bruni, a Webb County community of roughly 750 residents, there are no local medical professionals, forcing residents to travel nearly an hour to Laredo for even the most basic care. Bruni is not alone: 35 counties across Texas have no practicing physician at all, leaving entire populations without essential medical services.

Currently active in seven states and expanding to 25 by year-end, OnMed CareStations are already serving patients in homeless shelters, correctional facilities, community centers, universities, and other high-need locations. By meeting people where they are, OnMed is reimagining care delivery in regions historically left behind by the traditional healthcare system.
“This state-of-the-art OnMed CareStation is a critical solution for building a healthier community,” said Webb County Judge Tano E. Tijerina. “The collaboration between Webb County and OnMed will greatly enhance access to healthcare, specifically in the rural areas of Webb County, where there is a shortage of medical professionals.”
“This is a significant advancement for our community, and we invite not only our Webb County residents but also those from neighboring counties to take advantage of this opportunity to receive quality health care in a location that is convenient and close to home,” said Webb County Commissioner Precinct 2 Rosaura ‘Wawi’ Tijerina.
“Improving access to care in the most needed corners of America is crucial and possible,” said OnMed CEO Karthik Ganesh. “We are honored to partner with the local leadership in Webb County, who recognize that our healthcare access crisis can be solved. The OnMed CareStation is already making a huge difference in many underserved communities across America, and we’re excited by the impact it will have here.”
The OnMed CareStation is available to the public at no cost to the county or patients.
