NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / June 5, 2025 / Borders may divide, but one man is proving that the universal language of sport has the power to unite, uplift, and transform. That man is Hooman "Mo" Tavakolian-a former wrestler turned global sports diplomat, entrepreneur, and humanitarian.
USA Wrestling has officially appointed Tavakolian as a new Steward of the Living the Dream Medal Fund (LDMF), the organization's flagship donor initiative that supports Olympic and World medalists.
"We're thrilled to welcome Hooman Tavakolian as a steward of the Living the Dream Medal Fund," said Rich Bender, Executive Director of USA Wrestling. "His leadership within wrestling and commitment to growing the sport has been immense. As a steward, he is directly supporting and motivating our nation's top wrestlers as they compete on the world stage."
As the founder of Tavak Partners, Tavakolian's reach extends well beyond the wrestling mat. His strategic advocacy has opened doors for female athletes in regions where sporting opportunities were once nonexistent. His efforts consistently redefine what's possible in international competition, turning wrestling into a global tool for empowerment and unity.
The Living the Dream Medal Fund has awarded over $3.4 million to elite American wrestlers, giving them the resources and support necessary to compete-and win-on the global stage. Tavakolian now joins a prestigious group of philanthropic stewards dedicated to the sport's long-term success.
"I've spent most of my adult life helping underprivileged kids," Tavakolian stated. "The sport of wrestling has done so much for me. It's my time, and truly a privilege, to give back and be a part of this incredible group."
Tavakolian's leadership is defined by action. After an ISIS attack destroyed a wrestling gym in Kabul, he personally helped rebuild it-transforming a scene of tragedy into a new center of athletic hope. In 2017, when political tensions threatened to exclude Team USA from the Freestyle World Cup in Iran, Tavakolian played a key behind-the-scenes role in negotiating their participation-proving his ability to deliver in the most difficult diplomatic scenarios.
Through his nonprofit, Hoomanities, Inc., Tavakolian has funded and built schools in underserved regions around the world, with a special focus on girls' education. His Become Your Own Dream Scholarship continues to empower young athletes from under-resourced communities to pursue their passions through sports and education.
Most recently, he teamed up with Wrestling for Peace, traveling to Jordan to support women's wrestling and assist children in Syrian refugee camps.
Tavakolian's many leadership roles underscore his global influence in wrestling:
Inductee, USA Wrestling National Hall of Fame
Senior Board Member, Titan Mercury Wrestling Club
Strategist, United World Wrestling
Member, USA Wrestling International Relations Committee
Advisor, Asia and Americas Wrestling Development Programs
He is also the co-author of Hooman's Hope, a deeply personal memoir and motivational call-to-action that encourages young leaders to persevere, act boldly, and challenge convention.
In a world that needs more than just athletes, Hooman "Mo" Tavakolian stands as a warrior for change, equity, and global unity through sport.
