Dr. Stewart began establishing his academic background in 1976 when he obtained a Bachelor of Science in comparative biology from California State University, Long Beach. Inspired by his mother's work as a registered nurse, he wished to begin a career in the field of health care. However, he did not want to work as a medical doctor, as he didn't desire to be a part of a large hospital system.
Following the completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Stewart elected to pursue a career in dentistry. He believed that this branch of medical work would suit him, as he considered it a more independent cottage industry. He earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of California in 1980.
Dr. Stewart's Career and Impact in Dentistry
Dr. Stewart has enjoyed a long and prolific career in dentistry. He accomplished a significant feat by establishing and managing two general practices with two associate doctors, an arrangement that allowed him to balance time with his family while excelling in his professional endeavors.
From 1996 to 2021, Dr. Stewart served as president for Gary Stewart DDS Inc. Though he has since retired from this position, he now works as a consultant for Delta Dental.
Alongside his career, Dr. Stewart expanded his outreach as a dentist through a meaningful mission to the Dominican Republic. There, he and a team of medical doctors conducted general medical examinations and performed procedures such as trachelectomies and adenoidectomies.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Stewart has observed how the field of dentistry has evolved. He is enthusiastic about the new usage of lasers for gum treatments, which can even now be utilized for filling cavities. Additionally, the composites for anterior or front fillings have undergone positive changes, with notable improvements within the previous five years.
