John Keshi's New Book 'The Experiences of a Care-Giver' is a Thoughtful Story About Mental Health Patients Told From the Perspective of a Mental Health Worker

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - September 20, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Fulton Books author John Keshi, a native of Nigeria who is now an American citizen living in New York, has completed his most recent book "The Experiences of a Care-Giver": a touching and potent book about the real-life experiences of patients struggling with their mental health.

Author John Keshi writes, "During my sojourn as a nursing student, I had worked in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities in Southern California. When I got to Creekside, I learned quickly that working in a mental health facility called for more patience than was required in hospitals and other health centers."

Published by Fulton Books, John Keshi's book details the lives of mental health patients, told from the perspective of mental health workers working with the patients on a daily basis, not from the perspective of a psychiatrist. Specifically, the author's experience working at Creekside Rehabilitation and Behavioral Health in Santa Rosa, California.

Keshi describes Creekside, writing, "The center was a long-term mental health facility. Patients were referred to as residents. Their stay ranged from a few months to over a year in some cases. The center catered to the mentally ill and people with substance abuse and alcohol problems. The well-being of the residents was the responsibility of the nursing department. The rehabilitation arm of Creekside had the task of providing the residents with coping skills to enable them to get back into society after their release from the center. Classes such as cooking were among some of the skills taught to the residents by the rehabilitation department."

Keshi provides a unique and enlightening perspective to mental health care by focusing on the lived experiences of the patients.
