Peachtree City,United States - June 29, 2022 /PressCable/ —
Veteran award-winning director and writer Michael Feifer released his new feature film, Shooting Star, a black and white western that harkens back to the great movies of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
Synopsis: When Star’s little sister, Blaze, is injured in a horse-riding accident, Star enters a shooting competition with the hope of winning enough money to get Blaze the surgery she needs so she can walk again … but there are others in town who want the money too!
Filmed at Caravan West Ranch in Agua Dulce, California and Valuzet Ranch in Santa Clarita, California, director Michael Feifer endeavored to bring back a sense of nostalgia for fans of the western genre. Even more, Feifer and his producing partner, Peter Sherayko, set out to make a film that the entire family could watch together. Feifer said, “Peter and I set out to make a film that western fans who grew up on westerns of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s could watch with their children and grand-children!”

Shooting Star is the second film that Feifer and Sherayko produced for Rick and Ann Pihl, two huge fans of the genre and participants in the sport of Mounted Shooting. Feifer and Sherayko’s first film for Rick and Ann Pihl, A Soldier’s Revenge, was a huge success so they all set out to make a second film. Feifer suggested a movie that included the sport of Mounted Shooting and Sherayko immediately came up with the storyline. Rick and Ann Pihl were thrilled to finance a western based on their favorite sport, and Feifer immediately started writing the script.
Casting the leads was easy. Drew Waters, Heather McComb, Michael Paré, Jake Busey, Tim Abell, Caia Coley, Will Roberts, Jay Pickett and more were all good friends of the producers, but Feifer and Sherayko did not expect it would be as easy to find the young women to play sisters Star and Blaze.
Feifer and his wife, Caia Coley, found Blaze in church one Sunday when the pastor of their church asked the children in the congregation what they wanted to be when they grew up and that’s when young Lyana Ferrino belted out to the pastor that she wanted to be a triple threat … acting, singing and dancing. And, with that exclamation, Feifer and Coley knew they had one of their stars.
Then, after reviewing hundreds of submissions for the role of Star, Feifer couldn’t stop reviewing an audition of a young lady who had no credits to her name. The lack of credits, though, didn’t worry him because Feifer instantly knew that Brooklin Michelle had the star power and acting instinct to bring the character of Star to life! Not only did Brooklin take the role, but she dove right in with her headstrong attitude and passion for the craft of acting. Even more, Brooklin and her mom hit the stables and secretly took riding lessons so she was totally prepared for the role.
Feifer’s original intention was not to finish Shooting Star in black and white, but a revelation came while watching the on-board monitors that his focus pullers use. “I saw the movie in black and white and I suddenly realized it had the special look and tone I was looking for,” Feifer said. He never looked back and planned to finish the movie in black and white after only a few days of filming.
Peter Sherayko played Texas Jack Vermillion in Tombstone. After that studio feature, Sherayko dedicated his life to supplying movies with western paraphernalia from guns to wardrobe to props to horses to locations. And, with a vast expert knowledge of the time period, Sherayko also offers filmmakers stories and dialog that enhance their films and helps bring the genre to life.
Shooting Star is Feifer’s seventh western. His love of the genre, horses, the great wide open and the human stories of the old west continue to bring him back to the genre that he loves making most. He’s shot westerns all over the country from California to Idaho to Wyoming to Tennessee. His westerns have starred great actors such as Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Trace Adkins, Tom Skerritt, Tom Berenger and many more.
