A federal misdemeanor of Class A is considered the most serious and can result in a sentence of up to one year imprisonment, or a maximum fine of $100,000, for any period that is more than six months. A Class C federal offense involves a sentence of at least 30 days imprisonment, if more than five days, and a maximum fine of up to $5,000.
