As many high-profile music recognition events across the country continue to face accusations of systemic racism, the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame is proud to celebrate the power of the Black creative community in and around the city.

The event is an interactive walk that allows guests to develop a greater appreciation for the music, artists, and creative reach of Hamilton County. The event’s founding members, Bootsy Collins, Otis Williams, Dr. Charles Ford, and the Isley Brothers, are all nationally and internationally renowned artists. These powerful names emblemize the rich contribution that Southeastern Ohio has made to a range of musical genres, including funk, hip-hop, R&B, rock, and gospel.

This year, the inductees being celebrated include Midnight Star, Penny Ford, Hi-Tek, and Wilbert Longmire. The official induction and dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 23, from noon till 3:00 pm.

Hamilton County believes that the event affirms the city of Cincinnati’s commitment to culture and music. And, in a city where almost half of the population is Black, they also want to showcase to the rest of the country how diverse they are, and how much this diversity has shaped the city for the better.

The event organizers hope that anyone living in the region will enjoy the chance to interact with musical history and will be inspired by the pure talent and passion of this year’s inductees.

The Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame has fast become a staple of the city’s cultural calendar. The motto of the event is that inspiration abounds when one reaches for it, and it is their mission to give every member of Hamilton County that inspiration.

A spokesperson for the music event said, “What makes a star? Passion? Originality? Perseverance? For the Black music icons from Hamilton County, it started with a dream. Followed by the tenacity to never quit until that dream was a reality. Join us and experience greatness so close and personal you can touch it.”
