Iracemápolis - The new GWM Brazil Plant in Iracemápolis is not only a key step in the company’s globalization journey, but also a catalyst for regional economic coordination and industrial upgrading.
Through localized production, technology transfer, and ecological cooperation, GWM is injecting new development momentum into Brazil’s automotive industry chain and, more broadly, into Latin America.
As the first automotive plant in Brazil to obtain ISO 9001:2015 certification before production, the facility passed the audit with zero non-conformities — a testament to GWM’s globally consistent, high-standard manufacturing capabilities.
The initial production phase will include the GWM HAVAL H6 hybrid SUV, the GWM POER 2.4T pickup, and the GWM HAVAL H9 seven-seat SUV. All are tailored for the Latin American market, integrating intelligent driving, efficient energy use, and off-road performance.
“We regard Brazil as a strategic fulcrum in Latin America in GWM’s global layout, not just a node on the market map,” said Mu Feng, President of GWM. “What we bring is not just products, but a comprehensive mobility solution covering hybrid technology, intelligent four-wheel drive, and sustainable energy.”
The plant starts with an annual production capacity of 20,000 vehicles, which will gradually increase to 50,000 vehicles. By 2026, the goal is to achieve over 60% localized production of parts and technology R&D.
At the same time, GWM is actively building a localized digital user ecosystem, continuously optimizing delivery cycles and localized service capabilities, thereby redefining regional service standards.
In addition, GWM is collaborating with local suppliers and research institutions to advance comprehensive energy solutions for green manufacturing and sustainable development (including hydrogen and other technical paths)— positioning the plant as a model for green manufacturing and coordinated economic development.
By deeply integrating local resources with global technologies, GWM not only accelerates its own globalization, but also creates new opportunities for Brazil’s automotive industry to achieve structural upgrading and long-term growth.
This is where the broader impact comes into view. For years, Brazil’s auto industry has faced challenges in climbing the value chain. GWM’s deep integration of local supply networks, tech partnerships, and sustainability goals suggests a new model: not just foreign direct investment, but regional co-evolution. It’s a risk — but potentially a template.
A New Pulse in the Hemispheric Supply Chain
Standing outside the facility as a convoy of freshly assembled vehicles rolled out for the cameras, it was hard not to sense the significance of the moment. The GWM Brazil Plant is more than a factory. It’s a signal that Latin America, long viewed as an extension of global manufacturing rather than a driver, may be entering a new phase — one powered by cross-border cooperation, green technologies, and shared industrial ambition.
