Aledade Appoints Two National Health Experts to Board of Directors

Former CVS Health CFO Shawn Guertin and Public Health Leader Joneigh S. Khaldun, M.D., Join Growing Value-Based Care Company

Aledade, the nation’s largest network of accountable independent primary care practices, today announced the appointment of two experienced national health care leaders, Shawn Guertin and Joneigh S. Khaldun, M.D., to its Board of Directors.

Guertin is the former executive vice president and chief financial officer of CVS Health while Dr. Khaldun currently serves as President and CEO of the Public Health Accreditation Board.

“I am excited to welcome Mr. Guertin and Dr. Khaldun to our board,” said Farzad Mostashari, M.D., co-founder and CEO of Aledade. “Adding their expertise and proven track records delivering impactful results will help us advance our mission to create value-based care that is good for patients, practices and society.”

Guertin has built a distinguished career in the insurance and health care sectors, most recently at CVS Health, where he played a vital role in driving improved profitability and the development of the company’s value-based care strategy. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief enterprise risk officer at Aetna, where he oversaw all financial aspects of the business, including treasury, controllers and actuarial and risk management.

“Aledade has proven its ability to meaningfully improve primary care and patient outcomes through value-based care transformation,” Guertin said. “I look forward to supporting Aledade as it continues to grow in financially sustainable ways, driving impact and revolutionizing health care nationwide.”

A board-certified practicing emergency medicine physician, Dr. Khaldun has extensive experience across health care, government, academic and corporate sectors. As the former chief deputy director for Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services, she oversaw Medicaid, behavioral health and public health, and is credited with leading the state’s COVID-19 response. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and currently leads the Public Health Accreditation Board, the sole national accrediting body for governmental public health.

"I'm honored to join Aledade's Board of Directors and to contribute to a mission I deeply believe in," Dr. Khaldun said. "Aledade's work to advance population health through value-based care is a powerful force for improving health outcomes for all."
