Leading Washington DC Boutique Law Firm Bolsters Team With Antitrust Veterans
Rule Garza Howley LLP, a leading boutique antitrust law firm announced today it has hired Nathaniel (Nate) Harris and Aryeh Mellman, two experienced antitrust attorneys, to help satisfy an increasing demand for sophisticated antitrust advice amid a complex and dramatically changing regulatory environment.
Nate Harris brings substantial antitrust experience inside and outside of government. Harris served most recently as Chief of Staff and Attorney Advisor to Commissioner Melissa Holyoak at the Federal Trade Commission. Prior to his service with Commissioner Holyoak, Harris served as a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in the Healthcare and Consumer Products Section and as an associate at a large law firm. A graduate of the law school at George Mason University, he previously clerked for Judge Harris Hartz on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Aryeh Mellman joins Rule Garza Howley as an Associate. Mellman’s experience focuses on antitrust litigation, including the defense of antitrust class actions and multidistrict litigation. A graduate of Columbia Law School, Mellman clerked for Judge Chad F. Kenney in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Rule Garza Howley was formed in 2022 by former antitrust officials and top antitrust lawyers who have advised clients in some of the most significant antitrust investigations of the last 40 years. Since its founding, the firm has emerged as a leader on some of the highest profile antitrust matters as well as critical M&A, government investigations, and litigation. The firm’s model focuses on delivering commercially savvy advice that is relatively unencumbered by big firm conflicts. The approach has enabled the firm to help companies meet new mandates in a reshaped antitrust landscape and has driven the firm to grow to a headcount of 46.
“We are delighted to welcome Nate and Aryeh to the firm,” said Chair Rick Rule. “Nate has quickly established himself as a respected antitrust lawyer with years of experience at both the FTC and DOJ. As FTC Commissioner Holyoak’s Chief of Staff, he is well-connected to, and tremendously familiar with the Trump Administration and its approach to antitrust enforcement. Together with Aryeh, an up-and-coming talent in the antitrust bar, the experience and insight of our new additions will further strengthen our ability to serve clients facing the most challenging competition and enforcement matters.”
“Nate and Aryeh bring significant experience and insight into antitrust enforcement practices that will be helpful to deliver positive outcomes for clients,” said managing partner Dan Howley. “They are terrific additions and I’m excited to welcome them to the team. The Administration’s approach to antitrust has presented both challenges and opportunities, but it remains important for dealmakers to consult antitrust practitioners with the experience, knowledge and skill to execute their strategies successfully in these changing times.”
