Pharmaceutical Industry Professional Oliver Patel Will Explore How Companies Can Navigate Risk, Governance, and Copyright Related to Enterprise AI

CCC (Copyright Clearance Center), a pioneer in voluntary collective licensing, will host a market insights event, ‘Responsible AI in Practice: Navigating Risk, Governance, and Copyright' on October 30 at 10:00 am ET via LinkedIn Live, featuring Oliver Patel, Head of Enterprise AI Governance at AstraZeneca.

Patel, author of the forthcoming book, “Fundamentals of AI Governance,” which features 150+ cheat sheets that transform the complexity of AI risk, regulations, and the EU AI Act into a practical, step-by-step guide to AI governance, will join CCC Licensing and Legal Advisor Roanie Levy to discuss the legal, ethical, and commercial stakes of responsible AI development and highlight how copyright intersects with governance and compliance strategies.

“Responsible AI, anchored by strong copyright practices, is a moral necessity but also essential for fostering trust, ensuring safety, and a sustainable environment for human creativity,” said Tracey Armstrong, President and CEO, CCC. “We are excited to bring together distinguished experts like Oliver Patel and Roanie Levy to share their valuable perspectives for empowering professionals overseeing AI and data governance, risk and compliance, legal affairs, R&D, knowledge management, plus operational efficiency and quality.”

CCC hosted the LinkedIn Live event ‘AI & Copyright: Recent Litigation Themes’ in September 2025 for professionals in publishing, AI technology, and business. The online event featured an examination of the types of claims and the defenses being raised in recent AI-related copyright litigation, as well as how courts are viewing issues such as market harm, data sources, guardrails, and the evolving legal theories surrounding transformative use.

CCC advocates for copyright worldwide by engaging governments, stakeholders, and individuals with educational programming, thought leadership resources, and through its online hub, AI, Copyright & Licensing. In July 2024, CCC announced the availability of AI rights for internal corporate use within its Annual Copyright License (ACL), an enterprise-wide content licensing solution offering companies an efficient way to obtain rights to use copyrighted materials within AI systems. The license provides users with a harmonized set of internal use AI rights from a broad range of rightsholders and remunerates rightsholders for these new uses of their content. In March 2025, CCC announced the launch of a new AI systems training license for the external use of copyrighted works.

Since 1978, CCC has supported content users by providing efficient licensing solutions for their content uses. CCC’s non-exclusive voluntary collective rights licensing solutions include ACL for Business, Multinational Copyright License (MCL) for Business, ACL for Higher Education, ACL for Curriculum & Instruction, and ACL for Student Assessments. In addition to licensing solutions, CCC provides software solutions with integrated one-stop access for users to request, receive, and pay for full-text content and permissions to re-use content.
