Small Door Veterinary Expands in Washington D.C. With New Location in Spring Valley Neighborhood

New Age Veterinary Provider Brings Personalized and Convenient Care with Third D.C. Practice

Small Door Inc., a tech-enabled, membership-based veterinary care provider that operates under the brand Small Door Veterinary, today expanded its footprint in the Washington, D.C. market with the opening of its state-of-the-art practice in Spring Valley (4301 49th Street, NW). The new Spring Valley facility is the third location to open in the city this year, as Small Door continues to address a growing need for vet care amongst D.C. pet owners.

Small Door’s model of care reimagines the veterinary experience. Membership costs $169 per pet, per year and includes one free exam, same or next day appointments, 24/7 telemedicine, more time with trusted medical professionals, and thoughtful modern facilities equipped with the latest technology. Small Door was one of the first veterinary care providers to become a certified B Corp and the company also works to obtain AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accreditation for all of its practices, which is a recognition of the quality of veterinary facilities that only 15% of all vet clinics in the United States earn.

The opening marks the tenth location across three markets that Small Door has entered, with five New York City locations and two Boston practices that opened earlier this year.

"The DC market has proven to be a population of pet owners who value a more modern, personalized and thoughtful model of care. As Small Door continues to expand in the DC market, Spring Valley was an ideal neighborhood to serve our target customer,” said Josh Guttman, Co-Founder and CEO of Small Door. “I grew up in this city, so I’m emphatically proud that we’ve experienced success here and earned the trust of so many local pet lovers over the past year.”

Small Door’s mission also includes being a socially responsible employer and pet-care provider. The company was founded with a belief that it could make life better, not only for pet parents, but also for practitioners, ensuring: parental leave, no non-competes, competitive compensation and benefits, a mental health program designed to reduce stress and burnout, dedicated coaching and career mentorship, and many other benefits.

The Spring Valley facility will be led by Dr. Kristen Fischer as Managing Veterinarian and Dr. Jake London as Senior Veterinarian.

Dr. Fischer has called Washington, DC home for more than 30 years. A graduate of Maret School, Dr. Fischer went on to obtain her undergraduate degree in biology at Brown University and later the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated summa cum laude. Her specialties include wellness and preventative medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, geriatrics and more.

Destined to be a vet from an early age, Dr London’s grandfather was one of the very first veterinarians in Northern Virginia. Dr. London specializes in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, cardiology, dermatology, and preventive medicine.

“I joined Small Door Vet because it’s built on a foundation that values the intricate needs of pets, clients, and staff, allowing us to create an exceptional, personalized experience,” Dr. Fischer said. “The membership model enables us to truly understand each pet and their parent, developing tailored, preventative care plans that keep pets healthy in the long term. I’m thrilled to be part of this family and can’t wait to introduce Spring Valley to the unparalleled care and dedication we offer.”
