Marquis Who's Who Recognizes Amita Khare for Leadership in Mental Health and Community Advocacy

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 15, 2025 / Amita Khare, LMFT, has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who for her leadership in mental health and community advocacy. Ms. Khare is the founder and chief executive officer of Zenith Counseling, where she specializes in trauma-focused therapy for women, children and families. With more than 20 years of experience, she integrates psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and the structural dissociation model to help clients build resilience and navigate the effects of trauma.

A Career of Service in Trauma-Informed Therapy

Born in Maharashtra, India, Ms. Khare's early career included work in deaf education. This served in part as a launching point for a lifelong mission of serving others and developing aid programs. Her career in mental health formally began in 2000 as a child aide at Folsom Cordova Unified School District in California, where she worked in early mental health intervention programs. Her experiences in this role were inspirational, giving her a firsthand look at the extent of work needed in communities and cementing her resolve to do what she could to fill this need.

Ms. Khare pursued formal training and earned a master's degree in counseling with a specialization in marriage and family therapy from California State University, Sacramento, graduating summa cum laude in 2015. She went on to gain further experience as a marriage and family therapist trainee and intern at Terra Nova Counseling and Uplift Family Services before establishing Zenith Counseling in 2019.

Advocacy for Mental Health, Leading Toward Better Practice

Ms. Khare's work is not limited to the confines of her own practice. She is also deeply involved in mental health advocacy and professional development. She served as president of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she led efforts to sustain the organization through significant challenges. Her contributions earned her the Outstanding Chapter Leader Award from the association.

A firm believer in making mental health care accessible and affordable, Ms. Khare offers sliding-scale services and pro bono therapy in crisis situations, especially during such notable events as the pandemic and California wildfires. She is also committed to developing premarital counseling programs for interracial couples, recognizing the unique challenges they may face.

Empowering Women and Strengthening Communities

Ms. Khare is a foundational part of several women's empowerment initiatives. She serves as host of the annual Shakti Women's Symposium, now in its fifth year. This event brings together women from South-Asian backgrounds to discuss leadership, confidence-building and community collaboration. In addition, she facilitates women's empowerment groups and meetups, fostering networks of support and mentorship.

With an eye to the future, Ms. Khare plans to invest more in self-improvement so that she can become a better asset for her profession and her community. She plans to pursue additional certifications in therapeutic models and continue expanding her expertise and impact in the field.
