Meet Omar Diaz
Omar Diaz is a lifelong public servant with deep roots in his community. Born in Belleville and raised in Newark, he has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the people of New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History, with a Minor in Urban Education, from Rutgers University in Newark, alongside having completed the Urban Teacher Education Program, which highlights his commitment to education and public service.
Most recently, Diaz completed an Executive Master of Public Administration from the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration, where he achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, focusing on Non-Profit and Public Performance Management. His academic excellence and extensive hands-on experience suit him exceptionally for this critical leadership role.
Before joining NJDOT, Diaz was the unit head of the New Jersey State Police’s Real-Time Crime Center at the New Jersey Regional Operations & Intelligence Center (NJ ROIC). In this capacity, he spearheaded collaborative efforts among law enforcement agencies, enhancing public safety and responsiveness throughout the state.
Omar’s rich background in public safety and proven leadership skills will be invaluable to the NJDOT team as he works tirelessly to improve transportation infrastructure across New Jersey’s northern region.
Transition to NJDOT
Since transitioning to NJDOT in August 2024, Diaz has been vital in managing engineering projects, emergency management protocols, and maintenance operations for the state’s transportation infrastructure.

Omar Diaz’s career has been highlighted by numerous awards and honours, including the prestigious FBI Leadership Trilogy Award for his significant contributions to law enforcement leadership. He has also received a Senate Citation from the New Jersey State Senate and recognition from the International Association of Chiefs of Police for his outstanding service.
