The double-insulated windows OpenUp Windows specializes in producing feature an electrolytically applied hard coat to provide superior insulation and UV protection. Standard glass packages feature 1” thick insulated glass made up of two pieces of 3/16” tempered glass separated by a spacer. Page explains that the insulating value of glass is increased by adding a thin metal layer to the inboard side of the outer windowpane. This calibrates the U-value to achieve an insulated glass unit (IGU) that holds in heated or cooled air.
Commercial windows from OpenUp Windows are also tempered with a Low-e coating that minimizes UV and IFR rays without affecting the amount of light that shines through.
