Since the organization's inception in 1908, the title insurance executive and president of Community National Title, LLC, is the first board member of color.

Dallas, Texas Jan 30, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Business leader Johnny Collins, II, recently made history as the first Black person to be elected to the Texas Land and Title Association(TLTA) board in the organization's 115-year history.

A thriving title insurance executive and the president of Community National Title, LLC (CNAT), a full-service title agency in Dallas, Texas, Collins will serve as TLTA's Agent At-Large Director.

"Being the first black person to ever do this is perplexing, exciting, and insane all in the same breath," states Collins. "The organization has been around since 1908. Just shows how we are still underrepresented in so many industries."

TLTA is a statewide trade association representing the Texas title insurance industry serving over 16,000 professionals involved in the safe and efficient transfer of the real estate.

Collins credits Leslie Midgley, TLTA's Executive Vice President and CEO, for challenging him to be more involved with the organization. "Leslie challenged me and I accepted. I'm happy to be part of TLTA and can't wait to make a difference."

"Johnny is a forward-thinking and passionate title insurance executive and we're excited to have his perspectives help guide our association," states Midgley.

His journey began with mortgages and real estate. It's in his blood. "I'm a real estate child and my mother was a prominent real estate broker," states Collins. And although he had no intentions of being in the title industry, it happened organically and has been a lucrative pivot.

As a democratic leader, he allows his employees to have a voice and understands that every opinion counts.  "I thank my staff, my business partner, and my executive board for their contributions and hard work. Their efforts make our organization succeed and stand out from the rest."

A go-getter and disruptor, Collins emphasizes that there have been hundreds of thousands of Black men and women just in his generation that were never recognized by their peers as worthy of having a voice.

Securing a spot on TLTA's board is an avenue for Collins to have a voice while accomplishing one of his goals.

Another goal is to increase the number of Black title agents through CNAT University, an accredited college he founded that offers high-level insight into industry laws and standards, diversity, ethics, sales, and mental empowerment, he is up for the task.

"On one hand, I'm saddened to be the first Black on TLTA's board. However, I'm aware of the responsibility before me and I'm super excited about the opportunity to contribute to the industry on this level."
