More than 300 guests from all over the United States attended the inaugural Shining Through Service Gala benefiting Holliday’s Helping Hands (HHH) Foundation. The funds raised will help the nonprofit continue to provide shelter to individuals and families facing homelessness in L.A. County announced HHH Founder and CEO Ms. Katina Holliday.

The black-tie affair, which was held at the Renaissance Hotel at LAX, attracted a bevy of celebrities, business tycoons, community leaders and local residents who gathered together with a united purpose — to stamp out homelessness. Among the celebrities in attendance was Grammy-nominated performer MAJOR., who sang at the gala and CNN Hero Shirley Raines.

LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, 15-year-old activist and philanthropist Khole Thompson as well as Tatiana Rodgers of Miss Rodgers Hood were among those honored for their tireless work to combat homelessness in LA County.

“On all accounts, the gala was a success, and we thank all of our guests and those who couldn’t attend but made donations. Their generosity will help us fulfill our mission of putting a roof over the heads of LA’s homeless and helping them transition into productive citizens,” announced Ms. Holliday.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, which coordinates the annual count for most of the county, found that the region’s homeless population grew by 4.1% from 66,436 in 2020 to 69,144 in 2022. The percentage of those individuals living indoors in shelters also increased from 28% to 30%.

Ms. Holliday, a registered family nurse practitioner by training, founded HHH in 2018 to provide interim housing for LA’s homeless population. She also started the Shine Ambassador Program to help these vulnerable individuals train and prepare for jobs in the food service, landscape maintenance, screen printing and customer service fields. The three-month program is designed so that enrollees are able to build their resumes in preparation for future employment.
