Oak Ridge, New Jersey-based Shimmer Detail has placed an order for an Aptera, the new solar-powered vehicle manufactured in the San Diego area. Featured at the recent Fully Charged event in San Diego in September, the Aptera is slated for production in 2023.
The creatively designed 3-wheeler offers four levels of battery capacity ranging from the base package with a 250-mile range to the maximum 100 kW pack boasting 1000 miles of travel.

Shimmer plans to outfit the Aptera as an auto-detailing delivery rig to enhance its service offering in the northern New Jersey market. Delivering a premium auto detailing service is in part about efficiency and Krueger likes how the Aptera fits into that equation. “We’ve come up with a customized way to bring all the detailing supplies we need in the 25 cubic feet of cargo space available in the Aptera”, Krueger said.
Since the Shimmer Aptera will be outside about 95% of the time, the maximum solar package should provide a significant portion of the energy needed to transport Shimmer Detail teams and keep their tools charged.
