"Economic Development in a Changing Climate: Minimizing Risks and Maximizing Opportunities" launches today

WASHINGTON - Jan. 28, 2022 - PRLog -- The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest nonprofit association for professional economic developers, launched its newest Economic Research Development Partners (EDRP) report today. Part think tank and part network, the EDRP program generates original research designed to serve practicing economic developers and to advance the economic development profession.

EDRP's report, titled "Economic Development in a Changing Climate: Minimizing Risks and Maximizing Opportunities," will offer professionals insight into how to assess and mitigate the risks that climate change is bringing to their communities and industries, as well as how to look for and leverage incoming opportunities.

"Climate change is here and its impacts will only continue to grow. Economic developers have to think and plan accordingly," said 2022 IEDC Board Chair and President and Executive Director of Work Rise, Urban Institute Todd Greene, CEcD, "This report will aid economic developers in doing just that. It will outline how businesses can develop new products, services, and markets, and how communities can improve their physical resiliency while also improving their business climate and quality of life."

The report is a primer on what economic development organizations need to know about climate-related trends and the risks and opportunities posed to their work. It suggests actions economic development organizations can take to position their businesses and communities to survive and thrive in a future that does not look like the past.

"Every community has an opportunity to actualize jobs, capital investment and other strong benefits from contributing to a carbon-neutral world," said Susan Davenport, Chief Economic Development Officer at the Greater Houston Partnership and chair of EDRP.
