Event fosters connections between students, alumni and employers in the healthcare industry
University of Phoenix College of Nursing is pleased to share that it hosted the Spring Healthcare Career Networking Dinner on April 2, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the University of Phoenix campus. The event, which is part of an ongoing series, aims to provide University of Phoenix students with a valuable platform for networking opportunities in their chosen field. By facilitating connections with industry professionals, the event empowers students to forge meaningful relationships that can assist them in pursuing their career aspirations.
Earlier this year, University of Phoenix Career Institute® released its 2024 Career Optimism Index® study, a comprehensive report examining the state of American workers' career trajectories and sentiments about the future of their job and career opportunities. This year's Index reveals that workers and employers are facing a critical moment of talent stagnation in the workplace. Notably, 44% of employers say their top challenge to finding talent in the past year is a lack of well-qualified applicants. Healthcare workers say they need the most career support learning new skills (57%), seeking out growth opportunities (56%), and seeking out training programs that will get them ahead in their field (54%).
"The College of Nursing recognizes the significance of networking in shaping the future of our students' careers," says Dr. Raelene Brooks, dean of the College of Nursing. "This event serves as a pivotal opportunity for our students to engage with professionals in the healthcare industry, explore diverse career paths, and gain valuable insights into their chosen field.”
The networking event featured participation from industry leaders, their organizations, and provided valuable insights into careers in healthcare. Through one-on-one interactions and group discussions, students and alumni had the chance to gain firsthand knowledge about various career options, industry trends, and potential pathways for professional growth.
In recognition of National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6 – 12, which acknowledges the invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide, this event also underscores the crucial role nurses play in healthcare. This acknowledgment is particularly significant given the projections by the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis, which project a continued nursing shortage in the United States until 2036.
The College of Nursing’s Healthcare Career Networking Dinner is a natural extension of University of Phoenix's ongoing efforts to empower students and cultivate a vibrant community of learners within the healthcare field. Through events like these, the University remains steadfast in its mission to prepare students for success in today's dynamic healthcare landscape.
