University of Phoenix Vice Provost to Serve as Advisory Committee Co-Lead for 2024 AACRAO Technology & Transfer Virtual Summit

Marc Booker, Ph.D., brings extensive leadership experience in higher education, expanding transfer credit mobility initiatives, and technology product management to the role

University of Phoenix is pleased to share that Vice Provost of Strategy, Marc Booker, Ph.D., will serve as Advisory Committee Co-Lead for the 2024 Technology & Transfer Virtual Summit held July 9-11, 2024. The summit is presented by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). According to AACRAO, more than 500 higher education professionals attend the AACRAO Technology & Transfer Summit each year to explore how technology integrates into campus operations, and how strategic planning can foster innovative approaches to employing transfer credit and policies to facilitate learning mobility and improve student success.

AACRAO is a non-profit, voluntary, professional association working to make higher education more responsive to learner needs. With a membership of nearly 14,000 higher education professionals representing approximately 2,300 institutions in more than 40 countries, the association provides advocacy, research, and policy-based guidance and training to higher education professionals to smooth the path for learners at every stage of their journey.

“Given that learners of today crave modern, mobile, and technologically accessible experiences, the AACRAO Technology and Transfer Summit serves as a crucial platform for advancing higher education practices and synchronizing our institutional practices with technology solutions to create better student experiences and outcomes,” shares Booker. “As Co-Lead of the Advisory Committee, I am honored to contribute to the planning and execution of this summit, aiming to enhance learner mobility and degree completion through the sharing of best practices in transfer credit evaluation, recognition of alternative learning experiences in higher education, and leveraging higher education technology solutions to help foster institutional innovation.”

In his role as Advisory Committee Co-Lead, Booker will be instrumental in developing and executing the summit's planning timeline, crafting program plans, and shaping content for early announcements and calls for proposals. His responsibilities extend to collaborating on plenary session presenter recommendations, contributing to program development, marketing materials, and serving as a key liaison between the Advisory Committee and AACRAO staff in generating the program for the summit.

The virtual summit is a three-day event focused on the technology of transfer and meaningful data exchange, and the ways in which institutions can remove transfer barriers and speed processes that support learner mobility. As the Chair for the AACRAO Transfer & Articulation Committee and one of the driving forces behind skills-aligned learning and badging initiatives at University of Phoenix, Booker brings a wealth of experience to the event.

Booker is a frequent speaker and presenter at AACRAO events, including the AACRAO Annual Meeting, which brings together esteemed professionals from various disciplines to engage with one another and share best practices in higher education. At this year’s event, which took place April 7-10 in Columbus, Ohio, Booker presented a session titled, “Transfer Articulation 101,” where he provided an overview of transfer and articulation requirements and led a discussion on relevant issues such as building effective articulation partnerships and credit for prior learning programs. This session is based on the similarly named online course that Booker authored for AACRAO to support newer professionals that are entering the field of transfer credit evaluation.

“Dr. Marc Booker's leadership as co-lead for The AACRAO Technology & Transfer Summit represents the innovation and collaboration we promote in higher education,” shares AACRAO Director, Meetings and Events, Becky Fowkes. “His vision and dedication to advancing technology and transfer initiatives foster invaluable dialogue and transformative solutions for the academic community.”

As Vice Provost for Strategy at the University of Phoenix, Booker oversees critical path academic initiatives to improve the student experience such as learning platform implementations, curricular enhancements, and developing empathetic solutions to drive improved student outcomes through data. Booker also served as dean of the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO) Leadership Development Institute in 2023 and was President of PACRAO in 2016. In 2020, Booker received a Hall of Fame recognition from Blackboard for his contributions in providing thought leadership and innovation in education.

Booker was recently named the recipient of the AACRAO Thomas A. Bilger Award for 2024 for his leadership and service to the organization and received the UPCEA® Business & Operations Award for Operational Excellence for 2024 for his role in leading alignment of technical and non-technical resources to improve academic outcomes for students.

Booker has been an employee of the University of Phoenix since 2001.
