“Diversity represents the mosaic of who we are as humans and is the thread woven into the fabric of our society. It doesn't matter where you are from, your lifestyle or what your skin color is; what connects us all is the simple truth that we are all human,” said Dr. Mieres, associate dean, Faculty Affairs and professor of Cardiology Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. “I am honored to be among so many leaders whose mission is to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. As we redesign health care to address healthcare delivery disparities, the human connection is the catalyst and the core for advancing health equity in healthcare and beyond.”
Dr. Mieres has authored more than 70 scientific publications, has presented her research at over 100 national and international conferences and, has co-produced four documentaries and has co-authored three books, including her most recent publication, “Reigniting the Human Connection: A Pathway to Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity.” In the book, Dr. Mieres and her co-authors seek to solve the problem of healthcare equity by detailing systematic approaches to increase diversity, inclusion and health equity in the access and administration of modern healthcare.
“Modern Healthcare’s recognition of Dr. Mieres as a Top Diversity Leader in Healthcare is a testament to her unwavering commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive healthcare industry,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “Her dedication and efforts inspire health care organizations across the country to prioritize diversity and inclusion as laying the foundation for equity of care in their practices.”
