Tour to Celebrate and Highlight Historic African Folktales
Washington, D.C, District of Columbia Jan 28, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Washington D.C. area resident and Nigerian transplant, Ada-Ari, announces dates for her Black History Month book tour to celebrate the historic folktales of her African upbringing. The readings and book signings will take place at locations across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, throughout the month of February.
Ada-Ari is the creator of The Turtle's Cracked Shell and The Spider's Thin Legs, books for children ages two through eight that document classic and beloved African folktales from the author's childhood. The book tour pays tribute and honors these historical artifacts that, for many, have been lost due to centuries of migration and oral transmission.
"Growing up in Nigeria, my mother and elders would tell me these stories," said author Ada-Ari. "Now as an adult, and a mother raising African-American children, I want to ensure these stories live on for generations and become part of our everyday life."
The Turtle's Cracked Shell has origins in the Igbo tribe of Nigeria while The Spider's Thin Legs is an Ashanti folktale from Ghana. Both books teach children lessons like sharing and paying attention through fun characters and colorful illustrations.
"By sharing these stories with children of all backgrounds I hope future generations will grow up with a deeper awareness of and appreciation for African culture," said Ada-Ari. "The Turtle's Cracked Shell and The Spider's Thin Legs teach lessons that any parent can appreciate."
Each hardcover book also contains geographic and cultural facts as well as perforated flashcards for continued learning. Ada-Ari has plans to release additional books with folktales from other parts of Africa later this year.
The book tour kicks off on February 5 in Sterling, VA at Ridgetop Coffee and Tea. For more information about The Turtle's Cracked Shell, The Spider's Thin Legs, and additional tour dates and locations please visit www.ada-ari.com.
