Author Owen Thomas receives praise for his debut novel, “The Lion Trees,” and the newly released “Mother Blues”

Award-winning author Owen Thomas has released his latest novel, “Mother Blues,” a vivid and character-rich follow up to the award-winning “The Lion Trees.” Both novels were recently endorsed by Mariel Hemingway, an author, Oscar-nominated actress, and granddaughter of Nobel Prize-winning novelist Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway emphasizes the depth and authenticity of the characters in both works, praising the writing as masterful and the stories as unforgettable.

“The Lion Trees,” now available on Audible, tells the riveting, multilayered saga of an American family. In 2005, as the Bush Administration is busy invading Iraq, and as Hurricane Katrina is busy invading New Orleans, the Johns family is busy unraveling in Columbus Ohio: a son accused of abducting a missing girl; a husband beguiled by an attractive con artist; a wife drawn to lead an antiwar movement; a daughter clinging to hope amid fame and scandal in Hollywood. “The Lion Trees” is the story of four people who, persecuted by their own historically driven self-concepts, are at risk of losing everything that defines them. Suspenseful, comical, and relatable to people of all kinds, Thomas’ epic debut presents an unforgettable, psychologically compelling portrait of family bonds.

Thomas’ most-recent novel, “Mother Blues,” is a complexly structured work of upmarket fiction with a diverse cast, including strong female protagonists, navigating issues both timeless and topical: part coming-of-age confessional, part family saga, part psychotherapeutic drama, and part thriller, all with a strong literary sensibility. The story is set in Corbin, a dusty desert town in south Texas where long-held secrets and unexpected menace bring personal dramas to a boil and unlikely heroism to the fore. Resonant with the spirit of American blues music, “Mother Blues” is ultimately about the maternal relationships – absent, secret, and even supernatural – in the lives of characters desperate for rescue and redemption.

The Lion Trees is available in a two-volume paperback (ISBN: 978-1734630305 and 978-1734630312), on Kindle ($2.99) and Audible ($26.21). Mother Blues (ISBN: 978-1734630336) is available in paperback ($27) and on Kindle ($2.99). Both works can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including barnesandnoble.com and Amazon. Wholesale orders are available through Ingram.
