Social Distancing 2020: Virginia

Scrofano Law, PC, at Washington, DC, created free resources explaining Virginia Stay-at-Home orders in detail

WASHINGTON, DC, May 19, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scrofano Law, PC, top criminal defense firm, is currently practicing social distancing law by advising clients on how to interpret local government's orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jay P. Mykytiuk, an experienced criminal defense lawyer at Scrofano Law, explained to the public how to understand Virginia Stay-at-Home Order and apply it to their day to day activities.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's Stay-at-Home Order has been issued on March 30, 2020, and it will be in effect until June 10, 2020.

"Virginia is taking this very seriously. They have made a violation of the Order a class 1 misdemeanor, which brings a penalty of up to 12 months in jail or $2,500 fine or both. This is a similar misdemeanor as an assault or a DWI. Regardless of whether you're going to get caught, please stay at home because it's the right thing to do," said criminal defense lawyer at Scrofano Law, Jay P. Mykytiuk.

Executive Order 55 (2020), prohibits Virginia residents from leaving their homes, except for certain outlined activities. According to the Order, people also can't attend a non-house-of-worship religious gathering with more than 10 people. Students can't go to school or college. However, the Order may be more notable for what it continues to allow than for what it prohibits.

"The good news is people can still continue going to restaurants where they were picking up takeout; they can still go to grocery stores, seek medical attention, or get assistance from their local police department. However, if you had a beach trip booked, that's canceled. If you're graduating from Virginia high school or college, you're not going to be having a graduation party or hanging out socially in groups of more than 10", Mykytiuk added.

The legal team at Scrofano Law has already posted numerous videos where they have explained each component of the stay-at-home orders issued in DC, MD, and VA in simple terms. Although they are working from home during the crisis, attorneys at this law firm are still servicing clients.
