cStor Provides Washoe County, Nevada With Roadmap for State-Mandated Cybersecurity Framework Implementation

NRS 603A.210 mandate from State of Nevada requires state and local entities to comply with NIST or CIS 20 Framework by January 2021

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - April 28, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

cStor, a leading provider of data center, digital transformation and cybersecurity solutions, announced today that Washoe County, Nevada contracted with cStor to obtain a Gap Analysis on the county’s CIS 20 cybersecurity framework. The contract followed a state mandate by the Nevada government dictating that state and local agencies align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework or the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Controls.

cStor helped Washoe County complete the gap analysis of their security posture in respect to their chosen cybersecurity framework, CIS 20. The Gap Analysis provided a thorough review of the county’s policies, practices and systems to determine the current state of security in their specific environment. It then compared that current state to the framework. The result highlights the differences, or gaps, where improvements or changes are required. Those insights were used to help the county create a risk-based, long-term cybersecurity roadmap.

“cStor was honored to be selected to help Washoe County complete their overall security strategy,” said Andrew Roberts, chief cybersecurity strategist at cStor. “The framework and Gap Analysis are key steps in helping organizations create a strategic roadmap to a healthy state and avoid sensitive data breaches, ransomware and cybersecurity incidents which could negatively impact the organization and its customers. It also helps determine the best systems, technology and processes to implement in line with their specific goals and strategy for the organization.”

“The Gap Analysis was extremely useful in helping us work through a clearly defined strategic plan for improving our cybersecurity program and reducing our overall cyber risk,” said Craig Betts, CIO for Washoe County. “Having the framework in place allows us to execute on a strategic, long-term cybersecurity plan that we can use to make targeted, intelligent investments in appropriate technologies going forward.”
