Bressman Law Awards 2019 Traumatic Brain Injury Scholarship To Danielle Porter

Personal injury firm Bressman Law is proud to announce the recipient of the 2019 Traumatic Brain Injury Scholarship

DUBLIN, OH, March 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bressman Law, the Dublin, OH, based personal injury law firm has awarded its 2019 Traumatic Brain Injury Scholarship to Danielle Porter, 20, of Alliance, Ohio. Porter has overcome a serious traumatic brain injury to become a successful sophomore at the University of Mount Union.

Licensed since 1990 and with 58 years of combined experience, Bressman Law has helped countless clients who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. That's why, in 2015, we established this $1,000 scholarship to students who have been affected by this sometimes-invisible trauma.

It's estimated that some 2.5 million people a year are afflicted with brain trauma due to car accidents, falls, assaults and more. Porter was diagnosed with severe memory loss from post-concussion syndrome.

Porter was about to graduate high school as class valedictorian in 2017 when she was driving 60 mph and was hit head-on by a drunk driver. The first priority was saving her life because Porter's femoral artery had been severed. She also had a shattered femur, broken knee, pelvis fracture, and blood loss. Because of the severity of her injuries, she never received a brain scan that would have revealed severe traumatic brain injury.

That fall, the straight-A student found herself failing classes at the University of Akron where she had received a full scholarship. She visited her neurologist, who diagnosed her with post-traumatic concussion syndrome. Porter took a medical withdrawal from her college and moved back home to Alliance with her parents, Brenda and Michael Porter. Her memory has since returned and today she is a successful sophomore studying biology with aspirations to pursue a medical career.

Her goal is to comfort people on "the worst day of their lives" just as she had been comforted. Porter would like people to know that brain injuries are often invisible to the eye and that can be frustrating.

"It's nothing you can see, this thing that was wreaking havoc on me, no one else could see," she said.
