South Beach Business Improvement District Moves Forward

MIAMI - January 22, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

Miami Beach commissioners gave their preliminary approval for the South Beach Business Improvement District (BID.) Affected property owners will receive ballots in the mail as early as next month.

The area that encompasses the proposed BID houses the two most visited, most photographed and, without a doubt, the most well-known streets in all of Miami― Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue. The district consists of about 220 properties from 5th to 16th Street. Exclusions include residential properties, condominium associations, and religious or governmental institutions.

A proposal put together by the BID's Steering Committee indicated the projected $2 million budget to go towards (i) public safety, (ii) sanitation, (iii) lighting, (iv) beautification, (v) art installations, and (vi) community programming.

“Having one of the most recognizable hospitality brands in the world comes with a great responsibility to make sure that everyone who visits us has an extraordinary experience," said Mike Palma, Executive Vice President of Jesta Hotel Group and Chairman of the Ocean Drive Association.

Palma stated the main goals of the South Beach BID are

·       “to ensure that we have a clean, safe and family-friendly environment,

·       to further enhance the perception of the global South Beach brand,

·       to create diversified, attractive programming for both residents and visitors,

·       and to develop partnerships with key local and national groups.”

Voting for the South Beach BID will begin shortly among the neighborhood’s property owners. Fifty percent plus one of all property owners in the district must vote in favor of the BID in order for it to move forward. Absent votes will count as a ‘no.’
