The scholarship recipient is studying neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh

JERICHO, NY, November 22, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Friedman & Simon, L.L.P., has awarded its 2019 Academic Scholarship to Andrew Kelly, 20, of Levittown, Pa., who is a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh.

And the firm is certain that its recipient, Andrew Kelly, will make a difference in this world. Andrew described in his essay a stunning story of survival and triumph that started with a concussion from his first high school varsity football game in 2015. The blow to the head ruptured an arachnoid cyst in his brain and set off an excruciating medical journey, including 11 subsequent brain surgeries. Andrew still has to manage his life battling almost non-stop severe headaches.

In spite of missing 200 days of high school, Andrew managed to enroll at the University of Pittsburgh and maintain a 3.5 GPA with a difficult major in neuroscience. In fact, he volunteers in a Pitt study to help seniors with dementia and he is a research assistant at the school's Brain Trauma Research Center.

Andrew has found a purpose from his struggles, writing: "Many nights I have laid awake at night simply asking, 'Why would this happen to me?' And through my passion for neuroscience, I have found an answer."
