ITEM 8.01 Other Events.
At its meeting on December 15, 2009, the BB&T Corporation Board of Directors elected Chief Executive Officer Kelly S. King to be the Chairman of the Board, effective January 1, 2010. Mr. King succeeds John A. Allison, who has served as Chairman of the Board since 1989. Mr. Allison will continue to serve on the 18-member Board of Directors.
A copy of the press release announcing the events described above is attached as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated in this report by reference.
